GeoLite Country is similar to the GeoIP Country database, but is slightly less accurate. Should you require greater accuracy, GeoIP Country is a drop-in replacement for GeoLite Country. We also offer a free geolocation database on a city level.

We are unable to offer direct support for GeoLite users. Please visit GeoIP Support Center for available documentation and MaxMind Forum if you encounter problems.

Under the license agreement, all advertising materials and documentation mentioning features or use of this database must display the following acknowledgment: "This product includes GeoLite data created by MaxMind, available from http://www.maxmind.com/."

Our binary format is a highly optimized database that supports fast lookups using our Open Source API code.

  Once you have downloaded the database, you can uncompress it using gunzip on Linux or WinZip on Windows. You can then query the uncompressed file, GeoIP.dat, by using the example program in the API you selected for GeoIP Country.

Our CSV format enables you to load the database into a SQL database.

* Some French AOL users appear to come from Great Britain or Germany due to the way that AOL routes their traffic through proxy servers. Other countries may appear to come from the US if AOL routes the traffic through US proxy servers.
