Updates on Credit Card Fraud Detection Service for an Increased Level of Security
Boston, MA, August 17, 2005-- MaxMind,
an industry-leading provider of geolocation and online fraud detection tools,
adds two new variables for the Credit Card Fraud Detection (CCFD) service to
supplement the Address Verification Service (AVS) check.
The cityPostalMatch and shipCityPostalMatch variables determine if the provided
billing/shipping city and state correspond to the zip code provided.
"In some cases, fraudsters may have the card number, zip code and address but not
the city and state information," said TJ Mather, president and founder of MaxMind.
"The AVS checks only the zip code and the numeric portion of the street address and
does not verify that the complete address. The cityPostalMatch and shipCityPostalMatch
variables act as an extra level of security in identifying fraudulent transactions."
Both parameters are currently available for U.S. addresses only.
