Company Continues to Add Tools to Help Merchants Prevent Online Fraud
Boston, MA, September 30, 2005-- MaxMind,
an industry-leading provider of geolocation and online fraud detection tools,
introduces the Telephone Number Identification (TNI) service.
The TNI service identifies the type of phone numbers customers provide and
categorizes them into eight separate categories, such as fixed landline,
mobile and VoIP. By identifying the phone type, online merchants can more
effectively manage potential risks since different phone types carry
different potential fraud risk.
Fraudsters are less likely to make purchases using a fixed landline phone
because the phone number can be traced back to an address. They are more
likely to use a VoIP service like Skype to obtain an U.S. based phone
number from abroad since these numbers are untraceable and disposable.
"TNI is our latest offering in a series of tools that help merchants
detect online fraud," said TJ Mather, president and founder of MaxMind.
"Businesses are often hurt badly by fraudsters and at MaxMind, we are
always continuing to add new tools to meet emerging fraud techniques used by fraudsters."
