What is GeoIP?
GeoIP® is the proprietary technology that drives MaxMind's IP geolocation data and services. GeoIP provides businesses with a non-invasive way to determine geographical and other information about their Internet visitors in real-time. When a person visits your website, GeoIP can determine which country, region, city, postal code, area code the visitor is coming from. Furthermore, GeoIP can provide information such as longitude/latitude, connection speed, ISP, company name, domain name, and whether the IP address is an anonymous proxy or satellite provider.
What is minFraud?
minFraud is the proprietary credit card fraud detection service that combines our GeoIP® technology with other in-house developed order variable checks, such as open proxy detection. The minFraud service can provide all the information obtained during manual verification and additional information in less than one second. Merchants can use the minFraud service to speed up manual order verification, automate order process by using our risk scores, or develop their own customized scoring system with the information that we provide.
What is Proxy Detection?
Proxy Detection reports whether an IP address is a known anonymous or open proxy server.
For detecting online fraud or abuse, we recommend using the minFraud or proxy detection web service over GeoIP®, since the minFraud and proxy detection services report both anonymous and open proxies, while GeoIP only contains anonymous proxies.
