Site License Overview

Below is a brief overview of the major usage terms provided under the site license with each purchase of GeoIP® products. Please refer to the complete license agreement to see all the restrictions. Please contact sales@maxmind.com if you have any questions.



Usage Rights:

  • Internal installation and use of multiple copies of the database on multiple servers.
  • Unlimited number of queries can be made against the locally installed database(s), provided that devices outside your company cannot query the database.
  • Use of the data to provide IP geolocation functionalities to internal applications.
  • Creation of derivative works based on the GeoIP data for internal use.



Usage Restrictions:

  • The rights of site license and data may not be re-assigned, resold, or made available to any 3rd parties without MaxMind's written consent.

  • Access to the data/databases is restricted to employees and contractors of the license holder. With contractors, the license holder would be responsible/liable should the contractors violate the terms of the agreement.

  • Data/Database may not be stored in a way or fashion so that it is publicly accessible.

  • Use the database to develop a derivative product for sale, distribution, and display to or use by others. Derivatives of the database are allowed but only for internal use.



Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I would like to use GeoIP on xyz.com, xyz.ca, and xyz.biz. Do I need more than one site license?

Q: We are a hosting provider and have a license to one of your GeoIP databases. Can we install it on the different servers that we provide to our hosting clients?

Q: I would like to use the GeoIP data to power a web log/analytics tool that I provide to my clients. Is this allowed with just one site license?

Q: I would like to setup a website where my clients can enter a IP address and get the GeoIP information back. From reading the license agreement, it seems that this would not be allowed. However, I have seen other sites do this. How can I do this too?
