MaxMind tests the accuracy of the GeoIP databases on a periodic basis. This table shows the accuracy of the GeoIP City database by country. We arrive at the accuracy figure by checking known web user IP address and location pairs against the GeoIP City database.
IP geolocation is more accurate for broadband IP addresses and less accurate for cellular networks.
Note: Due to the nature of geolocation technology and other factors beyond our control, we cannot guarantee any specific future accuracy level. Nevertheless, we expect that the GeoIP City database will in the future correctly identify locations at the level of accuracy indicated in the table above.
Because IP addresses are reassigned, we recommend using the latest version of the GeoIP City database. When the database is not updated, it will lose about 1.5% accuracy each month.
