GeoIP® Database Addendum
(Effective September 22, 2026)
This GeoIP Database Addendum is referenced by and integrated into the MaxMind End User License Agreement (the “Agreement”) entered into by and between MaxMind, Inc. (“MaxMind”) and the customer defined therein as “you.” The terms and conditions of the Agreement apply in full to your use of the GeoIP Databases and are incorporated herein by reference. In the event of a direct conflict between the GeoIP Database Addendum and the Agreement, the Agreement shall control.
Unless otherwise noted, all capitalized terms used in the GeoIP Database Addendum are defined in the Agreement.
Licensed uses of GeoIP Databases under the Agreement
You may access and use the GeoIP Databases and the GeoIP Data therein for your own Restricted Business Purposes (as defined below). You may not access or use the GeoIP Databases or the GeoIP Data therein for any Commercial Purposes (as defined below) under this Agreement unless you have executed an order form or other agreement with MaxMind that explicitly permits your use of the GeoIP Databases and GeoIP Data for such Commercial Purposes. You may not use the GeoIP Databases in any way that violates federal, state, local, or international law, or the rights of others, or the Agreement.
“Restricted Business Purpose” or “Internal Restricted Business Purpose” refers to any use of the GeoIP Data solely for content customization for yourself, fraud prevention for yourself, and your own internal geographic reporting, provided that such use does not include any Commercial Purpose.
“Commercial Purpose” refers to any use of the GeoIP Databases or GeoIP Data for any of the following:
- Sharing the GeoIP Databases or any GeoIP Data with anyone other than you or your employees or service providers (where such employees and service providers are only permitted to use the GeoIP Databases for the purpose of providing services to you). For the avoidance of doubt, this includes sharing GeoIP Data with any of your affiliates, customers, partners, or other third parties.
- Any ability for anyone other than you or your employees or service providers to view or access the GeoIP Data or to view or access graphical or textual representations of the GeoIP Data or aggregated data taken from the GeoIP Data, and any ability for anyone other than you or your employees to initiate queries to the GeoIP Databases either directly or via any product or service.
- Distributing or restricting access to content on behalf of or for the benefit of any third party (such as your affiliates, customers, advertisers, partners or anyone other than you).
- Using GeoIP Data in the models or decision-making process for any service for the benefit of anyone other than you. For example, using GeoIP Data in a decision-making process for a fraud-detection service, sanctions compliance service, service for enforcing licensing restrictions or similar service offered to third parties, regardless of whether end users of the service and other third parties are able to view or otherwise access the GeoIP Data.

- You sell your own goods on a website that you control, and you use the GeoIP Data for product descriptions in the local language of the visitor.
The following are examples of using the GeoIP Databases and GeoIP Data for Commercial Purposes which are not permitted under this Agreement and which would require you to contact enterprise@maxmind.com to execute an appropriate order form or other agreement.

Additional database restrictions
- Disclosure of GeoIP Databases and GeoIP Data. You will not disclose the GeoIP Databases or GeoIP Data to any third party except as explicitly permitted by this Agreement or after notifying MaxMind of the anticipated disclosure and obtaining MaxMind's prior written consent to the disclosure. To the extent you disclose the GeoIP Databases or GeoIP Data to a third party as permitted by this Agreement, you will impose upon the third party the same or substantially similar contractual duties imposed on you and the rights provided to MaxMind as in this Agreement. You are responsible for the acts or omissions of any third parties with which you share the GeoIP Databases or GeoIP Data.
- Destruction of GeoIP Database and GeoIP Data. From time to time, MaxMind will release an updated version of the GeoIP Databases, and you agree to promptly use the updated version of the GeoIP Databases. You shall cease use of and destroy (i) any old versions of the GeoIP Databases and GeoIP Data within thirty (30) days following the release of the updated GeoIP Databases; and (ii) all GeoIP Databases and GeoIP Data immediately upon termination of the license under this Agreement. Upon request, you shall provide MaxMind with written confirmation of such destruction.
- GeoIP Anonymous IP Database, GeoIP Anonymous Plus Database and GeoIP Shield Databases. If you are licensing the GeoIP Anonymous IP database, GeoIP Anonymous Plus database, or any GeoIP Shield Database, notwithstanding any other provision in this Agreement, you may only use such database for detecting security incidents or protecting against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity.
- No Use of GeoIP Data for Identifying Specific Households, Individuals or Street Addresses. Due to the nature of geolocation technology and other factors beyond its control, MaxMind cannot and does not guarantee the accuracy of the GeoIP Databases. The GeoIP Databases contain only the geographic data available and the availability of such data is not consistent for all regions. The GeoIP Databases do not identify any geographic level or division more precise than the zip code or postal code associated with an IP address. Accordingly, it is imperative that MaxMind's customers not rely on the GeoIP Data to identify a specific household, individual, or street address. You acknowledge the foregoing limitation of the GeoIP Data, and you will not use or permit others to use the GeoIP Data for the purpose of identifying or locating a specific household, individual, or street address.
Confirming use case compliance
MaxMind may request information regarding your use of the GeoIP Databases and the GeoIP Data therein for the purpose of confirming that your use of the GeoIP Databases and the GeoIP Data therein is for a Restricted Business Purpose. You agree to promptly respond to MaxMind’s requests for information regarding your use case and to provide such follow-up information as MaxMind reasonably determines is necessary. To the extent that, following this discussion, MaxMind determines that your use of the GeoIP Databases is for a Commercial Purpose, you will be required to stop such use of the GeoIP Databases until you have entered into a written agreement that explicitly permits such use of the GeoIP Databases.
Piloting databases
You may request and MaxMind may agree to provide you with access to a GeoIP Database to evaluate on a trial basis (a “Trial Database”). MaxMind shall provide you with access to the Trial Database for such periods as are agreed to in writing by MaxMind (email to suffice) (the “Trial Term”) and you shall delete the Trial Database and GeoIP Data from the Trial Database immediately upon the completion of the Trial Term. You may use the Trial Database for the sole purpose of evaluating the Trial Database for your own use, provided that if the Trial Database is the GeoIP Anonymous IP database, the GeoIP Anonymous Plus database or a GeoIP Shield database, it may only be evaluated for uses relating to detecting security incidents and protecting against malicious, deceptive, fraudulent, or illegal activity. You may not use the Trial Database for any Commercial Purpose, but you may evaluate its use for a Commercial Purpose. Except as set forth in this section, the terms, conditions and restrictions applicable to the Services shall apply to the Trial Database.
